The Rose walkway on Adelgade

Why is there a small narrow alley between the houses in Adelgade? The Rose walkway is not just a good shortcut, it had an important function for the local citizens!

Rose Lane is a small water access lane – one of five routes from the main street Adelgade down to the town stream, used in the 1800s in case of fire.

The most recent major fire was in 1825, so quick access to water was important.

Rose Lane also gave women access to the town stream for doing laundry.

Today, Rose Lane is worth using for another reason too: the residents along the lane have been inspired by the name and grow roses in their gardens along the little street.

Dogs must be kept on a leash.
